Retired teachers are impacted by changing federal and provincial government policies. Fiscal policies, positively or negatively, affect the financial, health and social benefits enjoyed by retired teachers. ERTA can, with its provincial counterpart, the Alberta Retired Teachers’ Association (ATRA), closely monitor policy changes and provide a means for retirees to voice their concerns on matters that affect their welfare. ERTA works in close association with ARTA to affect positive changes for retired teachers in the following areas:

  • ▪ Extended health and dental care benefits
    ▪ Alberta Coverage for Senior drug benefits
    ▪ long-term care facilities
    ▪ assisted-living accommodations
    ▪ home care services
    ▪ pensions
  • In addition, ARTA has negotiated group plans for the following types of benefits:
  • emergency medical coverage when traveling out-of-province and out-of-country
  • trip cancellation insurance
  • home insurance
  • automobile insurance
    life insurance
A separate membership is required for ARTA.
Their membership information and forms are available from the ARTA website at www.arta.net or call 1-855-212-2400 (toll free anywhere in Canada) or 780-822-2400 locally.
